Just the Beginning

We decided the IV pole needed a little personality and bling! (Thanks Aunt Jane!)

After waking up Wednesday morning vomiting we took a trip to the clinic. I was treated with IV fluids and anti-nausea medicine. Thursday, the 8th, I woke up chilling, with a raspy voice, and a 100.5 degree fever. We went to the out patient clinic and were sent home after 2 IV antibiotics and no signs of the flu. However, that night my fever rose and we were sent to the ER .We were moved to a room early Friday morning and I was not holding up so well. After a transfusion, tylenol, and lots of antibiotics things are looking much better. I have gained five pounds from all of the sugar water they have given me, I am like a water balloon! My fever, headache, and pains were all attributed to MDS. My blood pressure has been low. They decided to keep me until Monday and I will be given my first course of chemo in patient.

Wonder how Decitabine works? It is infused for one hour Monday- Friday and then three weeks of recovery time. At the one month point they will do a bone marrow biopsy and aspirate and decide whether the drug was beneficial enough to do another course. The idea behind the Decitabine is to lower the number of blasts in my bone marrow, before going to transplant.

In my eyes this was a preview of what's to come in the next six months. It's not that great, and I have only just begun. However, at the end of the day you realize its worth it. You remember what to fight for. You also realize that you have to enjoy life. Worry a little bit less, and live a little bit more.

  1. Just read your update and wanted to tell you how much I love you. Your faith, your unbelievable strength and resolve, is an amazing thing to witness. I've told you this at least 1 million times (maybe more) but you are so amazing and an inspiration to us all. Love you so much

  2. Ceci, I just finished praying that the doctors will have the utmost wisdom in knowing exactly the best way to administer the chemo. Your great attitude speaks to many.....hang in there.
we love you, Kathy & Rexie

  3. Hi Ceci, you don't know me but my name is David and I'm in a small group class with Randy and Jane in Arizona. As a group we pray for you and your family often. I was just sitting at my computer going through my favorites and saw your site so I decided to visit. I've never posted before so please forgive my rambling. Just know that (as I'm sure you do) there are a lot of people that are thinking of you, praying for you and love you very much. I wish you the very best and the fastest recovery time ever. God Bless you Ceci.
    Love from your AZ. friends,
    David Ramirez and Colleen Guy
